Hi Neil, the usual opening question... what do you do for a living?
I’m a Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire teaching MBA Leadership & Personality
...and how and why did you first get involved with RRC?
I ran the 10k Langdale Pudding Run in December 2017 (see below) and I thought I needed to get fit. I was a pathetic fat boy. I heard about Ramsbottom Running Club from Richard Lord and joined in early January 2018. If I remember my first Tuesday 5K was with Gemma and it nearly killed me.
What is your favourite running memory or moment?
Got to be Amsterdam. Having worked there in 2000, it was great to be back. Atmosphere was ace, friendships made for life and finishing in the stadium holding hands with Ann, Lianne and Helen was just brilliant. Then to be interviewed by a Dutch reporter on live TV was surreal.
Next stop Bruges?
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us...
I died at 14 playing cricket for my school. Still remember the teachers moist lips on mine....
I was told "you're wild". I guess experiences shape attitudes. Have no regrets; take risks and enjoy life. That's my mantra.
Who would be your 4 fantasy dinner guests (dead or alive)?
Antonio Gramsci, The Black Irish Pearl Phil Lynott, Lucy Worsley OBE & Billy Connolly
What is your pre-race routine?
Panic I always arrive too early....a must have black bin liner...apply deep heat to my ageing body and for Diane & Catherine (they like the smell on mi legs!) and make sure I have a flask of tea ready
OK onto the quick-fire round…
