Hello Juniors, Lambs, Yearlings and families 👋🏼
We are really missing you all and just we wanted to send you a quick update to let you know our plans for RRC Juniors!
Track & Membership
As you know we haven’t been able to meet since the start of summer holidays and unfortunately we're not planning on coming back immediately due to renovations of the athletics track at our home, Bury Athletics Club. Sadly we haven’t been able to find a suitable temporary venue and as such we have made the decision to not ask for membership renewals until we are able to provide weekly club sessions again.
Volunteers & Coaches
While we do have several Leadership in Running Fitness qualified Run Leaders, we have been advised that sessions provided for under 12 year olds must be led by a British Athletics qualified Coach or Assistant Coach. We only have one person available at present and they are very much shared and stretched across the whole club and they have lots of other commitments. As such we cannot currently offer continuity across every session.
Therefore, we are on the hunt for volunteers who would be willing to undertake training and deliver regular sessions to our Lambs.
Ramsbottom Running Club will be funding the qualification which is obtained upon completion of a 4-day course with British Athletics. If you are interested, or know anyone else who might be, please message us or grab Rowan, Julia or Clare at our Tuesday night club session in Ramsbottom.
Fun Challenges
Until we can meet again for weekly led sessions, we will be setting some challenges for you to complete. These can be with your family and friends, and maybe you could even get your school involved.
We will be introducing a Family Couch to 5k programme (inspired by Stubbins Primary school), scavenger hunts and fun running challenges. We will also be arranging visits to local parkruns, junior parkruns and races both as runners and as volunteers/cheer squads.
We'll be using the Ramsbottom Running Club Juniors Facebook page to share the challenges so make sure you head over and like the page 👍🏼
Keep your eyes peeled for the first challenge but for now we would love to hear your news and see your pictures of you enjoying running - be it your first ever parkrun or junior parkrun, setting a new Personal Best in a race or simply a run out in the hills with your dog!
junior parkrun
Up and down the UK and across the world, parkruns are free weekly events where communities get together to walk, run and have a nice time together.
On a Saturday there are 5k events for all ages and abilities, and on Sunday junior parkruns are 2k - especially for children aged 4-14 but grown ups are welcome to join in too.
It is free to register and take part, you just need to fill in a quick form and you will get a unique barcode that will store all of your walk/run and volunteer progress.
There are even milestones to reach where you can earn special wristbands.
We have our very own junior parkrun right here in Ramsbottom. Many of our members and friends are volunteers and runners at the event and it is a great way to get together and be involved in the community.
Ramsbottom junior parkrun is every Sunday, everyone meets near the bandstand in Nuttall Park for a group warm up and the 2k starts at 9am.
Sometimes there are special themes for example fancy dress or bring a soft toy but every event is fun and personal to you, you can run, walk, skip (or a combination of them all), you do your thing!

Getting together again
Until we can deliver our formal sessions, we would like to invite you to Ramsbottom junior parkrun, we are there every week so do head along whenever you can make it!
We will also arrange a meet up at a local 5k parkrun on Saturday in the near future so please watch this space...
We hope to see you soon and don’t forget to share pics of you and your running adventures!
