Week ending 24th July 2022
Tolkien Trail Race
One does not simply walk into Hurst Green and Darren Cottrill, Ian Entwistle, Jodie Reynolds and Bev Dobson avoided the temptation to just fly there on an eagle and ran the Tolkien Trail Race.
Ian was so excited that he was reciting lines from The Hobbit throughout the night - tuned out he was just Tolkien in his sleep.
Rishworth Trail Race
Adrian Campbell was at Sunday’s Rishworth Trail Race 11 miles of mostly runnable and accessible moorland trails reliably described by the organisers as “undulating” (aren’t they all?).
Old Crown Round Fell Race
Nigel Hartley (that's me!) was up in Cumbria on Saturday morning for the Old Crown Round Fell Race. A challenging 38k-ish club-run fell race based around peaks named after beers served in the Old Crown pub at Hesket Newmarket. Route choice is open to the runners, but they must check in at 5 peaks on the way including Blencathra and Skiddaw. Saturday’s low visibility and the fact that navigation tech is not allowed led most to stick to well established paths. There were some top fell runners in the field and the record winning time of 3:20 after 2200m of elevation was an awesome achievement.
parkrun
Down in Bristol Eve Hart left the teens in their beds and was our sole representative at the cross-border out and back over the Severn Bridge.
The Eden Project is already proving popular with holiday makers and Steve Marsden, Sacha Cooper and Jane Emanuel all took part.
Our biggest turnout was at Heaton Park where Emma Bates hit a new PB with a time of 32:28.
Paul Jenkins continued his running revival as our only runner at Skipton while Amanda Sidebottom and Sandra Powers had a morning out in Ellesmere Port.
Lee Entwistle was in Prestatyn and Adrian Booth was also on his own at Crosby as was Paula Jones at Bramshall in Uttoxeter.
Lee Troughton Lianne Troughton and Amy Ardill all posted times in the club championships anytime run at Burnage.
Great running again everyone!
